My Modern Narrow Gauge Projects

This Page is a showing of a few projects that I have in the works.

Unlike most narrow gaugers I like to model modern narrow gauge.

I tend to base my modeling on a "What if" scenario. What if the narrow gauge was alive and moving freight today. I base my concepts on the following railroads:

White Pass and Yukon, East Broad Top, US Gypsum, and the meter gauge Vitoria de Minas Railroad in Brazil.

Projects:

Sn3 SD-35e - Standard Gauge Diesel converted to narrow gauge.

I used an American Models GP-35 and an Athearn FP-45 underframe to create my version of an

SD-35e

Low Cost Sn3 Flat Cars - I used a MDC 60' flat cars to create 44' modern flats in Sn3.  I have also cut some of the cars down to 40'.

SD35e

Front of the SD35e on Sn3 track. Sunshine Models snowplow installed.

SD-35e

The engine looks very large pulling a standard Sn3 boxcar.

DL535e cab and SD35e

This cab would look great on this engine.

SD-35e

I have the handrails and grab irons in place.

Left side and top

DL535e cab

I modified the cab windows by cutting the post between the windows. This reduced it from four windows to two. It now has a EMD look to it.

DL535e frame

I added flywheels and Northwest Shortline shafts. I finished the truck frames.

Flat

The wood deck makes the car look good.

Flat

3/4 view. I used styrene to widen the car to Sn3 width.

Flat

I used the stock MDC trucks and pushed the wheels in 2mm.
